The Jungle Trails
The Pelagus Rainforest is a dazzling living laboratory with a phenomenal diversity of plants and wildlife. We have well marked natural trails for exploring the jungle with a guide or on your own. The trails are: -
Our trails are of different grades with a duration of about 45 minutes to a trail and lasting about 3 hours. Most of our trails are hilly in nature with the exception of the Rapids trail which is an old footpath used by the natives to escape the rapids.
To ensure that you enjoy the trail, it is advisable that you are appropriately attired. We recommend the use of light cotton t-shirts, shorts or long comfortable pants, cap or hat and good gripping boots or sneakers. Do not forget to bring along some drinking water and insects repellent.
If you happen to be on the Rapids trail, it would be good to bring along your swim wear. Should you decide to go on your own, it would be advisable to keep the resort management informed on the trail that you are taking. For the Wong and Bidai trail, it is strongly recommended that you request for our residents guide.
The People of Rejang
You will be captivated by the culture kaleidoscope of Rejang as 15 of Sarawak’s 28 ethnic groups are settled along the length and breadth of the river. The sheer diversity of these indigenous communities living in harmony is unchallenged, from the largest group, the Iban (estimated population 220,430) to the smallest minority, the Lisum (estimated population 20).
The Iban are famous for their headhunting history, their longhouses, their ornate body tattooing, their ‘tuak’, a potent rice wine, which is always offered to guest and their ‘pua kumbu’ (in Iban ‘pua’ meaning blanket and ‘kumbu’ meaning covering). The ‘pua kumbu’, represents the quintessence of Iban culture and is a statement about the soul of the weaver and her relationship with the spirits through her art. The musical instrument of the Ibans are the drums (gendang) and the gong (engkerumong). Their traditional festivals centre in dances and poetic tales of heroism, spiritualism as well as thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest.
The people of Rejang welcome visitors to their homes and their traditions of hospitality is legendary. You will be impressed by their spontaneity and eagerness to exchange culture experiences. Every visitor will depart the place with the unforgettable memory of a longhouse visit of a lifetime.
